Arizona Cardinals vs San Diego Chargers Week 4 Recap
Phillip Rivers – (12/20, 241 yrds, 2tds) had thrown his two td passes to Antonio Gates for 33 yards, and 26 yards. Rivers seemed to have been his old self again. A couple touchdowns to his best target, and no interceptions to speak of.
Running Backs – Mike Tolbert (16/100, 1td) continues his punishing runs as he had a break out day with decent runs, most notably a 23 yard scamper down field. Ryan Mathews (9/55, 1td) had worked his way back onto the field after hurting his ankle last week. the rookie rb made his presence felt with his first career td and he also had a nice 20 run.
Wide Receivers – Antonio Gates (7/144, 2 tds) was the biggest target for Rivers today, much like any other Sunday. Rivers hit Gates on a 33 yrd td and a 23 yrd td, helping Gates become the seventh tight end in NFL history with 500 catches. Malcom Floyd(2/45) and Mike Tolbert(2/3) had two catches a peace with a combined 48 yards between the two. Jacob Hester(3/40) had a couple break out run after catch plays.
O-Line – The big boys in San Diego did there jobs yet again, holding the Cardinals defence to only 1 sack and 1 qb hit throught the entier game.
D-Line – Johnson(2 tackles 1 sack), Garay(2 tackles 1 sack) and Cesaire(2 tackles) all did there jobs as the front line of the Chargers defence gave absolutely, positively no room for the Cardinals run game, allowing 47 yards all day on the ground. Allowing the linebackers to fly all over the place.
Linebackers – Burnett ( 7 tackle, 2 sacks) Phillips (6 tackles, 4 sacks, 1int, and 1 TD) Applewhite(3 tackles) Siler(1 tackle) Tucker(1 tackle, 1 sack) and Cooper(5 tackles) This group as playing like there was no tomorrow, absolutely punishing the Cardinals for every yard gained! Phillips had a blow out game with his 31 yard interception return for a touchdown.
Secondary – Gregory (6 tackles) Cason(3 tackles) Jammer(2 tackles with 3 passes deflected) and Oliver(1 tackle) had brought there “A” game today just as well. They did not give more than 58 yards to Fitzgerald, and only 146 yards through the air today.
It is beautiful to see the defence come to life like this, even if it is against the Cardinals. Show us some more Bolts!
